12.20.10 General Purpose

It is the purpose of this chapter to regulate the use of county property for overnight camping and to prohibit such use on property which has not been developed for overnight camping and which may be inappropriate for such use by reason of health and safety or its incompatibility with the use to which the property is intended.

12.20.20 Overnight Camping And Parking Restrictions

It is unlawful for any person to park overnight, either tended or unattended, any recreational vehicle, or to camp over night in any manner, whether by tent, sleeping bag or other means upon property owned or controlled by the county of Del Norte, or upon posted rights-of-way of the state of California, except in areas designated for overnight camping and posted with signs authorizing such overnight camping and setting forth the conditions under which persons may make use of the area.

12.20.30 Overnight Defined

Overnight is defined as any portion of the period between sunset of any given day and sunrise of the following day.

12.20.40 Camping Defined

Camping is defined as any activity, including but not limited to, erecting a tent, arranging bedding, occupying an area or parking a vehicle of any type for the purpose of remaining over night.

12.20.50 Prohibited Overnight Camping Areas

Overnight camping is specifically prohibited on the following designated county properties: mouth of the Smith River access area, Smith River boat ramp, Never Dying Redwood, Point St. George access area, Pyke Field sports complex, Bertch Oceanview Park, Oceanview Park, Hunter Creek Park, Klamath Townsite Park, Klamath Community Park, Klamath Townsite boat launch facility and the Klamath Glen boat launch facility.

12.20.55 Prohibited Overnight Use Of Kellogg Beach Access

Overnight camping is specifically prohibited at Kellogg Beach access area.

12.20.60 Permitted Overnight Camping Areas

The following county properties contain designated areas for overnight camping: Florence Keller Park, Ruby Van Deventer Park, and Clifford Kamph Memorial Park.

12.20.70 Posting Of Signs

Signs shall be posted to advise persons of areas in which overnight camping is prohibited and those areas which are desig nated for overnight camping. Neither the failure to post a sign nor the destruction of the sign shall relieve persons of the obligation to determine whether overnight camping is either permitted or prohibited, and if permitted, the conditions under which overnight camping may take place.

12.20.80 Penalty For Violations

Any person violating the prohibition against overnight camping or parking, as provided in this chapter, is guilty of an infraction. Any person who camps in designated areas without paying the required fee is guilty of an infraction.
