Chapter 3 — PUBLIC DEFENDER

2-2040 - OFFICE CREATED.

Pursuant to Section 27700 of the Government Code of the State of California, there is hereby created and established for the County of San Joaquin, State of California, the Office of Public Defender.

2-2041 - APPOINTING AUTHORITY.

The Board hereby determines that the Public Defender shall be appointed by the Board and shall serve at its will.

2-2042 - COMPENSATION.

The Board shall by order fix the compensation of the Public Defender, and the Board may change the compensation at any time it deems necessary.

2-2043 - DUTIES.

The Public Defender shall perform the duties set forth by law and particularly set forth in Section 27706 of the Government Code of the State of California.

2-2044 - OFFICE SPACE, FURNISHINGS, SUPPLIES.

The Board shall provide suitable rooms for the use of the Public Defender and office furniture and supplies with which to properly conduct the business of his office, such expenses to be a charge against the County, and the amount of which shall be provided for by resolution of the Board.

2-2045 - COST OF BRIEFS ON APPEAL.

The expense of printing or typewriting the briefs on appeal on behalf of a defendant represented by the Public Defender is a County charge.
