2.76.010 - Definition.

For the purpose of this chapter, a uniform or insignia shall be deemed substantially similar to the uniform or insignia of the sheriff's department if it so resembles such official uniform as to cause an ordinary reasonable person to believe that the person wearing the uniform is a deputy or employee of the department of the sheriff of the county of Kern.

2.76.020 - Regulation of uniforms and insignia.

The uniform and insignia to be worn by the deputies and employees of the sheriff's department and the manner of wearing the same shall be in accord with specifications and rules and regulations drafted and adopted by the sheriff of the county of Kern.

2.76.030 - Approval by board of supervisors.

Such specifications, rules and regulations shall be subject to review and approval by the board of supervisors and a copy thereof shall be placed on file with the clerk of said board and maintained for public inspection in the office of the clerk.

2.76.040 - Authority of sheriff.

Subject to such review and approval, the sheriff is granted the authority to prepare such specifications and rules and regulations which in his best judgment shall be appropriate to specify the design of such uniforms and insignia and to prescribe and regulate the wearing thereof.

2.76.050 - Amendment.

Any such specifications, rules and regulations may be amended or supplemented by the sheriff from time to time as may be required and subject to review and approval by the board of supervisors as aforesaid. Copies of any such amendments or supplements shall be filed with the clerk of the board and maintained for public inspection in the office of the said clerk.

2.76.060 - Violation—Penalty.

It is unlawful for any person other than a deputy or employee of the sheriff's department of the county of Kern to wear any uniform or insignia which is substantially similar to any uniform or insignia prescribed by the sheriff under the provisions of this chapter. The violation of this section is a misdemeanor punishable in the manner prescribed by Section 1.12.030 of this code.
