2.08.010 - Working days and hours.

A. Offices and facilities of Kern County government shall be open for the transaction of county business every day from eight (8:00) a.m. to five (5:00) p.m., unless such hours are modified by a resolution of the Kern County board of supervisors, except that county offices shall be closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and those days and hours specified in this section:

  1. January 1st, New Year's Day (as observed);

  2. The third Monday in January, Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.;

  3. The third Monday in February, Washington's Birthday;

  4. The last Monday in May, Memorial Day;

  5. July 4th, Independence Day (as observed);

  6. The first Monday in September, Labor Day;

  7. November 11th, Veterans Day (as observed);

  8. The Thursday in November appointed as Thanksgiving Day and the following day;

  9. December 24th, Christmas Eve (as observed);

  10. December 25th, Christmas Day (as observed);

  11. December 31st, New Year's Eve (as observed);

  12. When specifically approved by the board of supervisors, every day appointed by the President or Governor for a public fast, thanksgiving, or holiday.

2.08.020 - Heads of departments.

The heads of the departments shall be those officers or employees of the county who by any statute of this state or by official action of the board of supervisors have been or hereafter shall be placed in charge of or made responsible for certain functions of the county.
