2.96.010 - Sheriff to hold.¶
Any unclaimed property in the possession of the sheriff of Marin County shall be held by the sheriff for a total consecutive period of time of at least three months.

2.96.020 - Recovery by owner.¶
At any time during the period that any unclaimed property is held by the sheriff of Marin County, the owner thereof may recover the property upon proving ownership thereof to the satisfaction of the sheriff and the payment of any costs to Marin County that the sheriff may determine to have been incurred in the towing, carting, storing, advertising or otherwise maintaining the property.

2.96.030 - Notice of sale.¶
At any time after property has been held by the sheriff for three months or more the sheriff may publish once in a newspaper of general circulation, published in Marin County, a notice of sale at public auction of such property. The notice shall give the time, date and place of sale and shall be published at least five days before the time set for sale.

2.96.040 - Sale by auction.¶
At the time and place set for sale the sheriff shall hold a public auction and sell such property to the highest bidder.

2.96.050 - Deposit of money from sale.¶
All moneys received by way of costs or sale shall be transmitted forthwith to the Marin County treasurer for deposit in the Marin County general fund.
