Marin County Municipal Code Ch. 2.48 Elective Officers' Compensation

2.48.010 - Coverage—Scale.

The following elective officers of Marin County shall receive, as and for their entire compensation for the duties of their respective offices, the sums in this section hereinafter set forth, together with the payments on account of the premiums on the policy of group life insurance heretofore authorized and purchased by Marin County on officers and employees of the county, which premium payments are more particularly provided for by Section 2.48.020:

(a) Tax collector-treasurer and county clerk. For the calendar years 1971 and 1972, the sum of twenty-two thousand seven hundred twenty-five dollars per year, and for the calendar years 1973 and 1974, the sum of twenty-four thousand six hundred dollars per year. Insofar as the county clerk is concerned, the amount shall include any sums which the county clerk might otherwise be eligible to receive pursuant to the provisions of Section 204-A of the Code of Civil Procedure.

(b) Assessor. For the calendar years 1971 and 1972, the sum of twenty-three thousand five hundred dollars per year, and for the calendar years 1973 and 1974, the sum of twenty-four thousand six hundred dollars per year.

(c) Sheriff. For the calendar years 1971 and 1972, the sum of twenty-four thousand dollars per year, and for the calendar years 1973 and 1974, the sum of twenty-six thousand four hundred dollars per year.

(d) Recorder. For the calendar years 1971 and 1972, the sum of nineteen thousand three hundred fifty dollars per year, and for the calendar years 1973 and 1974, the sum of twenty-two thousand three hundred dollars per year.

2.48.011 - Collateral duties.

The compensation set forth in this chapter shall relate to any and all duties and responsibilities of the officers enumerated in Section 2.48.010, including but not limited to all appointive, delegative, statutory and/or assumed collateral positions for which additional compensation would be otherwise required. Such salaries shall not be increased during any term of office by virtue of the assumption of additional duties and/or responsibilities or the occupation of additional collateral positions, either through action of the board of supervisors or by operation of law.

2.48.015 - Compensation of supervisors.

In addition to such fringe benefits as forfeited county employees and such other benefits as are fixed by law, supervisors shall receive as compensation a salary calculated as follows:

From the effective date of the ordinance codified in this section until such time as it is modified, the salary of each member of the board of supervisors shall be sixty-five percent of the annual salary for the office of Superior Court Judge as prescribed by the legislature, and shall also include compensation paid to each member of the board of supervisors for ex-officio services required by law and performed for another governmental body, when such other governmental body pays a per diem or other payments for the services rendered to the county of Marin for payment to the member, and any other benefits currently provided to the members.

As of the first pay period starting after January 1, 2027, the salary of each member of the board of supervisors shall be seventy percent of the annual salary for the office of Superior Court Judge as prescribed by the legislature, and shall also include compensation paid to each member of the board of supervisors for ex-officio services required by law and performed for another governmental body, when such other governmental body pays a per diem or other payments for the services rendered to the county of Marin for payment to the member.

As of the first pay period starting after January 1, 2028, the salary of each member of the board of supervisors shall be seventy percent of the annual salary for the office of Superior Court Judge as prescribed by the legislature, and shall also include compensation paid to each member of the board of supervisors for ex-officio services required by law and performed for another governmental body, when such other governmental body pays a per diem or other payments for the services rendered to the county of Marin for payment to the member.

The Department of Finance is authorized to implement adjustments to supervisor salaries as soon as notification of changes to Superior Court Judge salaries is received from the State of California.

2.48.020 - Insurance.

There is continued in force and effect the system of group life insurance, adopted in 1937 and carried into effect through the purchase of a group life policy for the benefit of such of the officers and employees of the county as have or shall elect to accept the same and who have authorized this board of supervisors to make such purchase and to make deductions from their compensation for the payment of premiums on such insurance. Payment of one-half of the premiums for group life insurance from the general funds of the county is authorized. The payment shall be made upon a claim therefor made, allowed and approved in the manner provided by the law. The county auditor is authorized and directed to deduct the remainder of the premiums from the compensation of the officers and employees covered by the policy of group life insurance and to pay the sums so deducted to the insurance company which issued the policy on account of the premiums.
