Sec. 2-36.01 - Department established—Director position created.

There is hereby created as a County Department a Community Development Department and the position of Director of Community Development. The Director of Community Development shall be an at will employee appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

Sec. 2-36.02 - Department duties.

Under the supervision of the Board, and subject to the discretion of the Board, except as otherwise provided by applicable law, the Department of Community Development shall perform all of the duties of the Planning Department, the Building Department and the Environmental Health Departments.

It is the intent of the Board in creating the Department of Community Development to provide for the administrative consolidation of the environmental health functions, the planning functions, and the building inspection functions, under the Director of the Department. Those duties presently set forth in County law for environmental health, planning, and building inspection are intended to be consolidated under the administrative direction of the Director of the Department.

Sec. 2-36.03. - Director—Appointment and removal.

The Director of the Department of Community Development shall be appointed by a majority of the members of the Board. The Director shall serve at the pleasure of the Board and as an at-will employee and may be removed or suspended by a majority vote of the Board at any regular meeting; provided, however, that the Director of the Department shall have not less than thirty (30) days notice in writing of the Board's intention to remove the Director before the removal shall become final. During the thirty-day time period, the Director may be suspended or relieved of his or her duties by a majority vote of the Board.

Sec. 2-36.04. - Intent.

It is the intent of the Board in creating the Department of Community Development to provide for the administrative consolidation of the public health functions, the planning functions, and the building inspection functions, under the Director of the Department. Those duties presently set forth in County law

for public health, planning, and building inspection are intended to be consolidated under the administrative direction of the Director of the Department. It is not the intention to grant any authority to the Director of the Department of Community Development beyond what is authorized by law.

Sec. 2-36.05. - Duties of Director.

The duties of the Director shall also include all the duties of planning, public health, public health disaster and public health emergency response, personal health, environmental health, and jail health.
