Chapter 2.12 — ASSESSOR DEPARTMENT

2.12.010 - Recognition.¶
There is in the county an assessor department, hereafter in this chapter referred to as the department.

2.12.020 - Executive officer.¶
The executive officer of the department is the assessor, elected as provided in the Charter and state law.

2.12.030 - General powers and duties.¶
The assessor shall perform the duties pertained to listing and valuation of property for taxation as prescribed by state law and ordinances not inconsistent therewith, which duties shall include, but not by way of limitation:
A.
To assess annually all taxable property in the county, except state assessed property;
B.
To administer the laws relating to exemptions in the manner and form prescribed by state law and regulations;
C.
To draft and maintain maps and records of property in the county;
D.
To prepare the assessment roll for submission to the board;
E.
To perform other duties pertaining to assessment of property prescribed by law or by ordinance.

2.12.040 - Timing of assessor election.¶
A.
An election to select an assessor shall be held with the presidential primary in the same manner that applies to the district attorney and sheriff, and as set forth in California Elections Code Section 1300.
B.
An assessor elected in 2022 shall serve a six-year term, and the next election for the office shall occur at the 2028 presidential primary.
