Chapter 7.04 — PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS

The maximum vehicle speed limit set forth by the California Vehicle Code on County highways or portions thereof within the unincorporated territory of the County of San Mateo shall be decreased by Ordinance of this Board of Supervisors to prima facie vehicle speed limits of 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 or 60 miles per hour, whichever is found most appropriate, to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and is reasonable and safe. Said prima facie speed limits shall be effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected upon said County highways or portions thereof.

Prima facie speed limits of 15 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations while children are going to or leaving the school, either during school hours or during the noon recess period, and when approaching school grounds that are not separated from the highway by a fence, gate, or other physical barrier while the grounds are in use by children:

• Along the westbound direction of SPRING STREET between WILLOW STREET and a point approximately 140 feet easterly of KAYNYNE STREET.

• Along the northbound direction of CAMINO AL LAGO between BARNEY AVENUE and ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS.

Prima facie speed limits of 25 miles per hour are declared to exist at the following locations:

• Along ALAMEDA DE LAS PULGAS between VALPARAISO AVENUE and SANTA CRUZ AVENUE.

• Along BARRON AVENUE from FAIR OAKS AVENUE to BAY ROAD.

• Along CANYON ROAD beginning at County boundary north-easterly of SKYLINE BOULEVARD and extending to County boundary approximately 300 feet westerly of SUMMIT DRIVE.

• Along HIGGINS CANYON ROAD beginning approximately 1.4 miles easterly of CABRILLO HIGHWAY and extending to PURISIMA CREEK ROAD.

• Along HIGGINS DRIVE between HILLSIDE LANE and HILLSIDE CIRCLE.

• Along JEFFERSON AVENUE in the unincorporated area between EMERALD ROAD and CALIFORNIA WAY.

• Along PARROT DRIVE between the corporate limits of the Town of Hillsborough and the corporate limits of the City of San Mateo.

• Along SANTA CRUZ AVENUE between the corporate limits of the City of Menlo Park and SAND HILL ROAD.

• Along SKYLINE BOULEVARD over the span of the Crystal Springs Dam Bridge.

• Along the westbound direction of SPRING STREET between WILLOW STREET and DOUGLAS AVENUE and in both directions along SPRING STREET between DOUGLAS AVENUE and SECOND AVENUE.

• Along SUNSHINE VALLEY ROAD between ETHELDORE STREET and HARTE STREET.
