13.42.010 - Naming streets.¶
The streets hereinafter described shall be named and shall hereafter be known and designated as follows:
(a) That road sometimes known as the Novato-Hicks Valley County Road between Diablo Avenue, Novato Ranch subdivision A and the road generally known as the Point Reyes Petaluma County Road, including that portion known as De Long Avenue on the map entitled "Subdivision One Sweetser Ranch" as filed at the office of the county recorder, county of Marin in book 4 of maps at page 49, is renamed "Novato Boulevard."
That road sometimes known as Nave Drive or old state highway between Diablo Avenue, Novato Ranch subdivision A, and its intersection with U. S. Highway 101 (Redwood Highway) at Ignacio, is renamed "Novato Boulevard."
That road sometimes known as Lower Novato-Black Point County Road between U. S. Highway 101 (Redwood Highway) and Atherton Avenue (Upper Novato-Black Point County Road) including that portion shown as Briggs Avenue on the map entitled "Map of the Town of Novato" as filed at the office of the county recorder, county of Marin in book 1 of maps on page 52, is renamed "Olive Avenue."
That street shown as Mervyn Avenue on the map entitled "Map of the Town of Novato" as recorded in the office of the county recorder, county of Marin in book 1 of maps on page 52, is renamed "Vallejo Avenue."
That street shown as Hill Road on the maps entitled "Subdivision One Sweetser Ranch" and "Subdivision Three Sweetser Ranch" as filed in the office of the county recorder, county of Marin in book 4 of maps on pages 49 and 50, is renamed "Seventh Street."
That portion of Feliz Street bordering the southerly boundaries of lots twenty-one and twenty-two of Reservoir Hill Place as shown on the map entitled "Map of the Town of Novata" as recorded in the office of the county recorder, county of Marin in book 1 of maps on page 52, is renamed "Davidson Street."
That portion of Feliz Street bordering the easterly boundaries of lots twenty-three and twenty-four of Reservoir Hill Place as shown on the map entitled "Map of the Town of Novato" as recorded in the office of the county recorder, county of Marin in book 1 of maps on page 52, is renamed "Oleander Lane."
Elm Avenue as shown on the map entitled "Map D Grandview" as recorded in the office of the county recorder, county of Marin in book 3 of maps on page 15, is renamed "Horton Avenue."
That street bordering the southerly boundaries of lots three through twenty-five as shown on the map entitled "Grandview Map A," as recorded in the office of the county recorder, county of Marin in book 2 of maps on page 32, said street sometimes shown on various maps as San Pablo Avenue, is named "Grandview Avenue."
(b) The roads hereinafter described as shown on that certain map entitled "Map showing Unincorporated Area of Novato and Vicinity, Marin County, California" as drawn up by H. B. Messnet, county surveyor in 1939, said map being on file in the office of the county planning commission, are named or renamed as follows:
That road sometimes known as Upper Novato-Black Point County Road between U. S. Highway 101 (Redwood Highway) and the State Highway to Black Point is officially named "Atherton Avenue."
That road bordering the easterly boundaries of lots sixty through sixty-four of Machin's Black Point subdivision of lots six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven and twenty-three of division C of Rancho de Novato is named "Glen Lane."
That road bordering the southerly boundaries of lots nine through fourteen of subdivision of lots fourteen, fifteen and sixteen of division C of Rancho de Novato is named "Sunset Trail."
That road bordering the southwesterly boundaries of lots seven, eight, nine and ten of division C of Rancho de Novato is named "Crest Drive."
That road between Atherton Avenue and the road hereinbefore proposed to be named Crest Drive, from the southerly corner of lot two, subdivision of lot seventeen of division C of Rancho de Novato to the most easterly corner of lot eighteen, subdivision of lots fourteen, fifteen and sixteen of division C of Rancho de Novato is named "School Road."
That road between the road hereinbefore proposed to be renamed Olive Avenue and Deer Island is named "Deer Island Lane."
That road bordering the southwesterly boundaries of lots nineteen, twenty and twenty-five and cutting the southwesterly corner of lot eighteen of division C of Rancho de Novato is named "H Lane."
That road bordering the southerly boundaries of lots eighty-three and eighty-four of Sweetser Ranch subdivision three is named "Benton Lane."
That road bordering the northwesterly boundaries of lots two hundred thirty-eight and two hundred forty-five, Novato Ranch subdivision C, said road sometimes known as McClay Extension and shown as McClay Avenue on the original subdivision map is renamed "Leisure Lane."
That road bordering the southeasterly boundaries of lots two hundred thirty-eight and two hundred forty-five, Novato Ranch subdivision C, said road shown as De Long Street on the original subdivision map, is renamed "Gage Lane."
That road between lots thirteen and fourteen, Novata Ranch subdivision E, is named "Davis Avenue."

13.42.020 - Adoption of official house numbering map.¶
That certain map entitled "A Portion of the Streets and Highways Master plan, Marin County, California, known as Official House Numbering Map for Central Novato," said map being filed in the office of the planning commission, is hereby adopted by the county of Marin both for house numbering purposes and for the purpose of naming and designating public streets in said area, provided, however, that the adoption of said map is not intended to act as an acceptance of streets whose dedication is not otherwise accepted, and, as to such streets said official map is to be used for identification only.

13.42.030 - Fixing numbers.¶
All structures, abutting on any public street, avenue, drive, road, place or lane in central Novato shall be given and marked with an official number. The numbers shall be in accordance with that certain map entitled "A Portion of the Streets and Highways Master Plan, Marin County, California, known as Official House Numbering Map of Central Novato" as hereinbefore adopted. Numbers shall proceed from the smaller numbers as shown upon said map to the larger numbers. The even numbers shall be given to and placed upon structures fronting on the right side of streets and the odd numbers shall be given to and placed upon structures fronting on the left side of streets. A number shall be assigned to every twenty-five feet of property frontage except where fifty foot spacing of numbers is indicated on the map above referred to.
In case of doubt, or where a question arises as to the proper number to be assigned to any structure, the planning commission or an officer or employee of said commission, designated for such purpose, shall decide the question and fix the number of such structures.

13.42.040 - Numbers required.¶
The number plate, placed upon any building shall be metal or wood or plastic, or the number may be painted on the front of the building, door, post, transom or other place. The number shall be at least three inches in height and shall be so placed as to be easily seen from the street.

13.42.050 - Duty to affix number.¶
If the owner or lessee of any building shall fail, refuse or neglect to place the number or to replace it when necessary, the planning commission or an officer or employee of said commission, designated for such purpose, and upon order of this board of supervisors, shall cause notice to be personally served on such owner or lessee or mailed by registered mail to his last known address, ordering him to place or replace the number. Such owner or lessee shall comply with such notice within ten days from the date of service.

13.42.060 - Severability.¶
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this chapter is for any reason held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portion of this chapter. The board of supervisors hereby declares that it would have passed this chapter and each section, subsection, sentence, clause and phrase irrespective of the fact that any one or more sections, subsections, sentences, clauses or phrases be declared invalid.
