The space in which any floor furnace is installed shall be accessible by an opening in the foundation not less than 24 inches by 18 inches (610 mm by 457 mm) or

by a trapdoor not less than 24 inches by 24 inches (610 mm by 610 mm) in any cross-section thereof, and a passageway not less than 24 inches by 18 inches (610 mm by 457 mm) in any cross-section thereof. [NFPA 54:10.10.9]
