2.89.010 - Establishment of classes and schools for education of prisoners.¶
Pursuant to the authority provided in Section 1907 of the Education Code, as reorganized effective April 30, 1977, the Board of Supervisors of Monterey County hereby establishes classes and school facilities in the Monterey County Adult Detention & Rehabilitation Facilities for the education and vocational training of the prisoners. For purposes of attendance, "adult" means any prisoner confined in any County Jail and who has enrolled in classes or schools authorized herein.

2.89.020 - Maintenance of classes and schools for education of prisoners.¶
Such classes and schools as are established herein shall be maintained by the governing board of any school district in Monterey County maintaining secondary schools and shall be provided pursuant to written agreement between the Sheriff and the governing board of the school district. Such classes and schools as are established herein shall be for the purpose of providing instruction in civic, vocational, literacy, health, homemaking, technical, and general education and shall include, but not be limited to, adult basic education, high school diploma programs, and preparation for General Education Development tests.

2.89.030 - In lieu proceedings.¶
Such classes and schools as are established herein shall be in lieu of any such classes, schools, educational programs, or vocational training programs which may be established and maintained by the Monterey County Superintendent of Schools pursuant to Section 1906 of the Education Code, as reorganized effective April 30, 1977.

2.89.040 - Severability.¶
If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause, or phrase of this Chapter is for any reason held to be invalid or unconstitutional, such invalidity or unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or constitutionality of the remaining portions of this Chapter, it being hereby expressly declared that this Chapter and each section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause, and phrase thereof would have been adopted irrespective of the fact that any one or more sections, subsections, paragraphs, sentences, clauses, or phrases be declared invalid or unconstitutional.
