The purpose of recomputing interest is to ensure that all outstanding balances, late posting credits, additional assessments, etc., are considered in determining the amount of interest due on a tax module up to the current 23C Date, and to make adjustments, if necessary. See IRM 3.14.2.6.2, Common Command Codes Used in Notice Review, for applicable command codes.

If the due date for filing a return or making a payment is on a weekend or legal holiday, taxpayers may file or pay on the following first workday without being charged penalties or interest.
