12.48.010 - Blohm Avenue.

A. No person shall drive or move any commercial vehicle, as such a vehicle is defined in the California Vehicle Code, exceeding a gross weight of vehicle and load of fourteen thousand (14,000) pounds on that portion of Blohm Avenue between three hundred (300) feet westerly of Marcus Street and Carpenteria Road in the community of Aromas.

B. An alternate route for vehicles subject to the provisions of this Section is designated as Railroad Street between Carpenteria Road and Blohm Avenue in said community of Aromas.

C. The Director of Transportation of the County of Monterey is directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs at the entrances to that portion of Blohm Avenue specified in Subsection A of this Section, reading, "Vehicles Over 7 Tons Use Railroad Street," or words of similar import, reasonably calculated to give notice of the requirements of this Section.

12.48.020 - Carpenteria Road.

A. No person shall drive or move any commercial vehicle, as such a vehicle is defined in the California Vehicle Code, exceeding a gross weight of vehicle and load of fourteen thousand (14,000) pounds on that portion of Carpenteria Road between four hundred (400) feet northerly of Vega Street and nine hundred (900) feet southerly of Viola Drive in the community of Aromas.

B. An alternate route for vehicles subject to the provisions of this Section is designated as San Juan Road to Aromas Road, to Kortright Lane, and thence to Railroad Street, in said community of Aromas.

C. The Director of Transportation of the County of Monterey is directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs at the entrances to that portion of Carpenteria Road specified in Subsection A of this Section, reading, "Vehicles Over 7 Tons Use San Juan Road to Aromas," or words of similar import, reasonably calculated to give notice of the requirements of this Section.

12.48.021 - Merritt Street (State Highway 183).

A. No person shall drive or move any commercial vehicle, as such a vehicle is defined in the California Vehicle Code, exceeding a gross weight of vehicle and load of fourteen thousand (14,000) pounds on that portion of southbound Merritt Street (State Highway 183) between State Highway 1 and State Highway 156 in the community of Castroville.

B. An alternate route for vehicles subject to the provisions of this Section is designated as Southbound on State Highway 1 to the Molera Road off-ramp one mile south of the intersection of State Highway 1 and State Highway 183; eastbound on Molera Road to Nashua Road; Nashua Road to the northbound State Highway 1 on-ramp; northbound on State Highway 1 to State Highway 156; northbound on State Highway 156 to the State Highway 183 off-ramp to Castroville.

C. The Director of Transportation of the County of Monterey is directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs at the entrances to that portion of Merritt Street specified in Subsection A of this Section, reading, "Vehicles Over 7 Tons Use State Highway 1," or words of similar import, reasonably calculated to give notice of the requirements of this Section.

12.48.030 - Spreckels Streets.

A. No person shall drive or move any commercial vehicle, as such a vehicle is defined in the California Vehicle Code, exceeding a gross weight of vehicle and load of fourteen thousand (14,000) pounds on any portion of Railroad Avenue, Hatton Avenue, or Llano Avenue in the community of Spreckels.

B. An alternate route for vehicles subject to the provisions of this Section is designated as Harris Road between Abbott Street and Spreckels Boulevard in said community of Spreckels.

C. The Director of Transportation of the County of Monterey is directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs at the entrances to those roads specified in Subsection A of this Section, reading, "Vehicles Over 7 Tons Use Harris Road", or words of similar import, reasonably calculated to give notice of the requirements of this Section.

12.48.031 - Highways closed to commercial vehicles.

A. No person shall use any commercial vehicle, as defined in the California Vehicle Code, exceeding a gross weight of vehicle and load greater than fourteen thousand (14,000) pounds on any of the following roads:

Atherton Drive, in its entirety. The alternate route for vehicles is designated as Ocean Avenue.

Country Meadows Road, between Harrison Road and Reese Circle, the alternate route for vehicles is designated as Harrison Road.

Hudson Landing Road, in its entirety. The alternate route for vehicles is designated as Elkhorn Road.

Mesa Drive, in its entirety. The alternate route for vehicles is designated as Ocean Avenue.

Reese Circle, between Cross Road and Country Meadows Road, the alternate route for vehicles is designated as Cross Road.

B. The Director of Transportation is directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs as necessary to clearly delineate the roads specified in Subsection A.

12.48.035 - Residence district weight limits.

A. As provided in California Vehicle Code Section 35701, no person shall drive or move any commercial vehicle, as such a vehicle is defined in the California Vehicle Code, exceeding a gross weight of vehicle and load greater than that specified in this Section, on any of the following roads:

Agate Circle, in its entirety, five tons;

Bollenbacher Drive, in its entirety, five tons;

Burns Road, in its entirety, eight tons;

Cornwall Street, between San Juan Grade Road and Kelton Drive, five tons;

Crown Avenue, in its entirety, eight tons;

Del Monte Avenue (Castroville), Koester Street northerly to its terminus, five tons;

Dexter Drive, in its entirety, five tons;

Elsa Circle, in its entirety, eight tons;

Enfield Road, in its entirety, eight tons;

Geil Street (Castroville), between Palmer Street and Main Street, five tons;

Grace Circle, in its entirety, eight tons;

Hall Circle, in its entirety, eight tons;

Jade Circle, in its entirety, five tons;

Jade Drive, in its entirety, five tons;

Jasper Way, in its entirety, five tons;

Kelton Drive, in its entirety, five tons;

Main Street (Castroville), in its entirety, five tons;

Medbury Drive, in its entirety, five tons;

Merritt Street (King City), in its entirety, eight tons;

Norman Way, in its entirety, five tons;

Onyx Court, in its entirety, five tons;

Opal Court, in its entirety, five tons;

Palmer Street (Castroville), in its entirety, five tons;

Paseo De Vaqueros, in its entirety, three tons; Paseo Hermoso, in its entirety, three tons;

Penzance Street, between San Juan Grade Road and Jade Drive, five tons;

Pingree Way, in its entirety, five tons;

Royal Drive, in its entirety, eight tons;

Topaz Way, in its entirety, five tons.

B. The Director of Transportation of the County of Monterey is directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs as necessary to clearly delineate the roads specified in Subsection A.

C. This Section does not apply to any vehicle exempted from the coverage of this Chapter by state law, including the following:

  1. Any vehicle subject to Public Utilities Code Sections 1031—1036 (buses and other vehicles operated by passenger stage corporations), exempted by Vehicle Code Section 35701(a);

  2. Vehicles making pickups or deliveries from or to buildings, structures, or lots located on the restricted street, exempted by Vehicle Code Section 35703;

  3. Vehicles owned by a public utility or a licensed contractor while necessarily in use in the construction, installation, or repair of any public utility, exempted by Vehicle Code Section 35704.
