Systems containing more than 6.6 pounds (2.99 kg) of refrigerant shall have stop valves installed at the following locations: (1) The suction inlet of each compressor, compressor unit, or condensing unit. (2) The discharge of each compressor, compressor unit, or condensing unit. (3) The outlet of each liquid receiver. Exceptions: (1) Systems that have a refrigerant pumpout function capable of storing the entire refrigerant charge. (2) Systems that are equipped with the provisions for pumpout of the refrigerant. (3) Self-contained systems. [ASHRAE 15:9.12.4]
