Chapter 1.12 — CITY JAIL

1.12.010 - Location.¶
Those certain premises in the police building located at 13200 Penn Street, Whittier, California, the same being the southern portion of the basement floor of the police department building, which premises are now being used and occupied as a city jail and are more particularly described as follows:
The first floor of the police building located at 13200 Penn Street, Whittier, California, including the cell blocks, holding room and area designated as quarters and accommodations for prisoners, shall be and are named, designated and established as the city jail of, in, and for this city.

Editor's note— Ord. No. 3031, § 1, adopted April 28, 2015, repealed the former § 1.12.010, and enacted a new section as set out herein. The former § 1.12.010 pertained to similar subject matter and derived from prior code § 1210.
1.12.020 - Approval of use.¶
A.
All designations, previous references to and prior use of the premises described in Section 1.12.010 as the city jail are approved, ratified and confirmed by the city council as being true and correct.
B.
Wherever in any prior ordinance of the city the term "city jail" is used, it shall be and mean the city jail as defined and described in Section 1.12.010.

1.12.030 - Commitment to.¶
Any person under arrest, charged with the violation of any ordinance of this code, may before conviction, unless released on bail, or on recognizance, be committed to the custody of the sheriff of the county, or to the city jail, except
during such times as it may be necessary for the persons to attend court upon any proceeding connected with the trial of the charge.
