12.36.010 - Numbers required.

All buildings having a frontage on any public street, boulevard, highway or way within the corporate limits of the city shall be numbered by the owner, agent or occupant thereof as provided in this chapter.

12.36.020 - Establishment of numbering system.

A.

The city engineer is authorized, empowered and directed, and it shall be his/her duty, to establish a system of numbers for all lots, parcels or buildings fronting on or along any public street, boulevard, highway or way within the corporate limits of the city. The system when established by the city engineer shall be reduced to writing and it shall be kept on file

in his/her office. The numbers of all lots, parcels or buildings, when established or determined by the city engineer, shall be the official numbers therefor on any such public street, boulevard, highway or way.

B.

12.36.030 - Numbers for new buildings.

A.

All new buildings which are erected subsequent to the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter shall be numbered in accordance with the provisions of this chapter upon completion of the construction thereof. It shall be the duty of the director of building and safety to assign to the owner, agent or occupant of any such new building the property number thereof, determined in accordance with the provisions of this chapter and as established by the city engineer. The owner, agent or occupant of any such new building shall place on the building, within ten days after completion of the building, the number or numbers assigned to the building.

B.

The number or numbers shall be placed upon the premises on which any such building is located in such a position and in such a manner as to be plainly visible from the public street, boulevard, highway or way on which the building faces. The numbers shall be not less than three inches in height and shall be of a type and color which can be easily read and are discernible to the general public.

12.36.040 - Numbering on alleys.

Each building located on a C or M zoned lot which lot is served by an alley shall be numbered in the rear thereof as provided in this section. Every person who owns, or who is in possession of any such building, shall place thereon the appropriate street number therefor, assigned by the city engineer pursuant to this chapter. The street number shall consist of figures not less than three inches in height which shall be placed on the building or the lot in close proximity to the building, in a conspicuous position so that it is clearly visible from the alley which serves the lot.
