11.12.010 - Designation—Streets.

A.

Arterial: A through street collecting traffic from a local and collector street and classified in the circulation element of the city as an "arterial" street.

B.

Collector: A primary street that collects traffic from local streets and is classified in the circulation element of the city as a "collector" street.

C.

Local: A local street that collects traffic along its frontage.

11.12.020 - Designation—Authority.

In order to expedite the determination and designation of arterial streets and stop intersections for the purpose of regulating vehicular traffic upon the streets, to require vehicles to stop before entering or crossing arterial streets at a stop intersection, the city council may, by resolution, designate any street within the city as an arterial street. The city council may designate, by resolution, any intersection within the city a stop intersection. Upon said intersection being so designated a stop intersection, all vehicles shall be required to stop at one or more of the entrances to the intersection as may be prescribed in the resolution.

11.12.030 - Stopping at designated intersections and crossings required.

When the city council of the city, by resolution, designates any street or designates any intersection as a stop intersection, all vehicular traffic shall stop before entering or crossing the designated arterial street and all vehicular traffic shall stop at one or more entrances to the intersection as required by the resolution when stop signs are erected at the entrances to the street or part thereof affected.

11.12.040 - Yield intersection—Approach designated.

The city council, by resolution, may designate one intersecting street of intersecting streets or highways under its jurisdiction, which is not an arterial street, as an approach or approaches where motorists entering the intersection are required to yield the right-of-way and may install or direct the installation of yield right- of-way signs in accordance therewith.

11.12.050 - Yield intersection—Compliance required.

The driver of any vehicle, upon approaching any yield right-of-way intersection where a yield right-of-way sign has been erected shall yield the right-of-way to other vehicles which have entered the intersection from an intersecting street of which are approaching so closely on the intersecting street as to constitute an immediate hazard.

11.12.060 - Violation—Penalty.

The penalty for violations of this chapter is as prescribed in section 11.02.010.
