Sec. 1-2-30. - County Counsel to act as attorney.¶
(a) Pursuant to the authority of section 27643 of the Government Code, the County Counsel shall act as attorney for the Public Administrator in all estates in which the Public Administrator is executor, administrator with the will annexed, or administrator, where the Public Administrator has priority for appointment as established by law.
(b) The Public Administrator is authorized to proceed in propria persona in summary proceedings in accordance with sections 7660 through 7666 of the California Probate Code.
(c) The Public Administrator may employ private counsel in those estates in which he is nominated and would not otherwise have priority, for those estates in which he is appointed administrator with the will annexed, or administrator pursuant to chapter 6 (commencing with section 480) of division 3 of the Probate Code, and in those estates in which he is appointed administrator with the will annexed for the reason the executor nominated in the will has refused to serve.
(d) In such matters where the County Counsel furnishes representation to the Public Administrator, the County Counsel shall collect the attorney's fees allowed by law and pay them into the County Treasury.

Sec. 1-2-31. - Consolidation of offices.¶
Under the authority of Government Code section 24300, the Board of Supervisors hereby consolidates the duties of the offices of Public Administrator and District Attorney.

Sec. 1-2-32. - Election.¶
(a) Under the authority of Elections Code section 1300, the election to select the Public Administrator shall be held with the presidential primary.
(b) The Public Administrator elected in 2022 shall serve a six-year term and the next election for that office shall occur at the 2028 presidential primary.
