8.44.010 - Crosswalk establishment and designation.

The traffic engineer shall establish and designate crosswalks at intersections and other places by appropriate devices, marks or lines upon the surface of the street, as follows:

A. Crosswalks shall be established and maintained at all intersections within the central traffic district and at such intersections outside such district, and at other places within or outside said district where the traffic engineer determines that there is particular hazard to pedestrians crossing the roadway subject to the limitation contained in subsection B of this section.

B. Other than crosswalks at intersections, no crosswalk shall be established in any block which is less than four hundred twenty-five feet in length (property line to property line measurement). Elsewhere not more than one additional crosswalk shall be established in any one block and such crosswalk shall be located as nearly as practicable at mid-block, providing that mid-block crosswalks may be established in front of or on any side street of a school if the traffic engineer has determined the necessity therefor for the safety of school children.

8.44.020 - Standing in safety zone—When required.

No person shall stand in any street other than in a safety zone if such action interferes with the lawful movement of traffic. This section shall not apply to any public officer or employee or employee of a public utility when necessarily upon a street in the line of duty.

8.44.030 - Stopping or standing on sidewalk.

No pedestrian shall stop or stand on a sidewalk except as near as physically possible to the building line or curb line.

8.44.040 - Playing in streets or crosswalks prohibited.

No person or persons shall play in any public street or crosswalk.
