8.36.010 - Designation by signs.¶
Whenever any resolution of this city designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a street, the use of which is permitted by any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons, the city engineer is authorized to designate such street or streets by appropriate signs as "Truck Route" for the movement of vehicles exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons. Any other street, or portion thereof, not so designated or described, is a restricted street for purposes of this title.

8.36.012 - Local streets defined.¶
For the purposes of this title, local streets are defined as all streets in the corporate limits of the city of Vallejo, except Interstate 80, Interstate 780, State Highway 29 and State Highway 37.

8.36.014. - Local streets restricted.¶
Under no circumstance shall any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons travel on local streets, unless:
A. The vehicle has been issued a permit pursuant to Sections 8.40.050 through 8.40.070 of this code; or
B. The vehicle is making a local delivery or pickup as defined in Section 8.36.024; or
C. The vehicle meets exemptions pursuant to Section 8.36.030.
D. The street is designated as a truck route pursuant to Section 8.36.040.

8.36.020 - Use by certain vehicles required.¶
When any such truck route or routes are established and designated by appropriate signs the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight limit of five tons shall drive on such route or routes and none other, unless the vehicle has been issued a permit pursuant to Sections 8.40.050 through 8.40.070, inclusive, which permit is upon or within the vehicle, except that nothing in this title shall prohibit the operator of any vehicle exceeding a maximum gross weight of five tons from driving on any restricted street as defined in this chapter; provided, that the purpose of such trip is to make a local delivery or pickup as hereinafter defined; and provided further, that the course of travel of such vehicle is the shortest possible route ("direct route") between a designated truck route, a state highway or interstate and the point of origin or destination in the city.

8.36.024 - Local delivery or pickup defined.¶
For purposes of this chapter, a "local delivery or pickup" means ingress and egress by direct route to and from a restricted street when necessary for the purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares, and merchandise from or to any building or structure located on the restricted street or for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide repair, alteration, remodeling, or construction of any building or structure upon the restricted street for which a building permit has previously been obtained.

8.36.030 - Exemptions.¶
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to:
A. Passenger buses under the jurisdiction of the public utilities commission, a public agency, or school district; or
B. Any vehicle owned by a public utility, public agency or a licensed contractor while in use in the construction, installation, maintenance or repair of any public utility or public facility.

8.36.040 - Streets designated as truck routes.¶
Those streets and part of streets described in a city council resolution on file at the city clerk's office are declared to be truck routes for the movement of vehicles exceeding the maximum gross weight of five tons.
