Chapter 4.72 — FEE CHARGED BY THE CORONER FOR AUTOPSIES

4.72.010 - Request for autopsy.¶
Pursuant to the Government Code Section 27520, the coroner shall perform an autopsy on a decedent if requested to do so, in writing, by a family member. If there is no surviving spouse, child or parent, this request for an autopsy may be made by the decedent's next of kin. The requesting person shall be responsible for all costs incurred by the coroner for the performance of the autopsy.

4.72.020 - Coroner fees.¶
The sheriff-coroner-public administrator is hereby authorized to charge one thousand nine hundred fifty- eight dollars ($1,958.00) for autopsies when the decedent's family or next of kin requests the performance. If toxicology tests are required, charges from a contracted laboratory will be added to the board-authorized fee. If histology tests are required, a board-authorized fee will be added to the board-authorized fee for the autopsy.
