6.28.070 Quarantine of Dog used for¶
Law Enforcement 6.28.010. Impoundment of Certain Animals. Any animal not vaccinated for rabies in violation of the Rabies Control Act, California Health and Safety Code, div. 3, chapter 3, article 1.1900-1924, or of the rabies control provisions of this title shall be impounded and/or quarantined. The Animal Control Officer has authority to euthanize the animal if necessary. (Ord 546 § 1, 1995)
6.28.020 Animal Bite Victim Report:¶
Any person bitten or scratched by an animal of a species subject to rabies shall immediately report such incident to the Animal Control Officer or to the Health Department. If the bite victim is a minor or is otherwise incapable of making such a report, the parent or guardian, or owner of the animal shall immediately report the incident. (Ord 546 § 1, 1995)
6.28.030 Medical Report:¶
Every veterinarian or any other medical professional providing treatment for animal bites by an animal of a species subject to rabies shall immediately notify the Animal Control Officer, or the police department. (Ord 546 § 1, 1995)
6.28.040 Quarantine of Animal after Biting¶
Human: When the Animal Control Officer has received information that an animal of a species subject to rabies has bitten a human being or has exposed another animal, the Animal Control Officer, upon notice to the owner of the animal, may take either of the following actions: A. The Animal Control Officer may require that the owner quarantine that animal on the owner's premises for a period of ten days or for a duration as state law requires. The animal shall not be released from quarantine except by permission from the Animal Control Officer. B. The Animal Control Officer can require that the animal be interned in the animal shelter for a period of ten days. The animal's owner shall be responsible for all boarding fees and costs. C. For stray animals whose ownership is not known, the animal shall be quarantined at the animal shelter. (Ord 546 § 1, 1995)
6.28.050 Killing of Suspected Rabid¶
Animals: No person shall kill or cause to be killed any rabid animal, unless in self-defense. If it becomes necessary to destroy the animal, the Animal Control Officer shall see that the animal is euthanized in the most humane manner possible. (Ord 546 § 1, 1995)
6.28.060 Impoundment of Guide¶
Dog Serving Blind Master: A guide dog serving a blind master shall be quarantined only in the event that the owner is incapable of keeping the dog confined to the owner's premises, or in the event that the animal poses a severe threat to health and safety. (Ord 546 § 1, 1995)

6.28.070 Quarantine of Dog Used for Law¶
Enforcement: A dog used by any law enforcement agency shall not be quarantined after biting if such bite occurred while the dog was being used for law enforcement duties; however, the law enforcement agency shall make the dog available for examination at any reasonable time. The law enforcement agency shall notify the Animal Control Officer if the dog exhibits any abnormal behavior. (Ord 546 § 1, 1995)
