12.04.010 Definitions.¶
"Street" as used in this chapter, is intended to include avenue, court, way, drive, or other principal public means of access to buildings or enclosures, but does not include alleys except as otherwise specifically stated or shown on the plan. (Ord. 43 § 1, 1950)
12.04.020 Plan adopted.¶
There is adopted and established an official plan of the city, entitled "Official Map of Streets, Highways and House Numbers of the City of Ripon and Vicinity, San Joaquin County, California," designated as Exhibit A to the ordinance codified in this chapter, and made a part of this chapter and referred to herein as the Plan; the said Plan in this chapter, being adopted for the general purpose set forth in the preamble to the ordinance codified in this chapter. This Plan, together with the notations incorporated thereon, sets forth for each block, or tentative future block in the city, the general block number assigned to the block, beginning with 100 or 00 as shown thereon, with the starting axis located at the intersection of Main Street and Stockton Street. From the axis the numbers shall run consecutively upwards block by block, with certain exceptions as shown on the Plan, and caused by the existing street pattern. Any number on typically north-south streets shall be known and designated, for example, as No. 125 S., Stockton Street. Any number on typically east-west streets shall be designated and known, for example, as No. 100 W., Main Street. (Ord. 43 § 2, 1950)
12.04.030 No change to existing street¶
names. No change is made in the Plan in the existing names of streets except as shown on the official map attached to the ordinance codified in this chapter, and made a part of this chapter, in its entirety. (Note: Any street renamed shall be given the name placed on the official map.) (Ord. 43 § 3, 1950)
12.04.040 Block numbers.¶
Except as otherwise shown on the Plan, numbers are assigned on the basis of a number for each twelve and one-half feet of frontage, with odd numbers on the north and west sides of streets, and even numbers on the south and east sides of streets. Diagonal streets shall be regarded as north and south streets. Certain exceptions to these general rules may be shown on the plan for cases where there is a lack of uniformity of block lengths on opposite sides of the streets or elsewhere. (Ord. 43 § 4, 1950)
12.04.050 Entrance numbers—¶
Assignment A. All main entrance numbers to buildings and/or enclosures from the public streets of the city shall be numbered in
186 Street Names and Numbers (3/50) accordance with the Plan and as set forth in this section, and all required changes from any existing entrance numbers to a new entrance number provided by the Plan shall be made at the earliest possible date and at any event within a period of three months from the date of the adoption of the ordinance codified in this chapter, unless such date is extended by resolution of the city council. B. The duty of obtaining an assignment or reassignment of the appropriate entrance number is imposed upon the owner and/or the occupant of the building or enclosure to which any such entrance belongs or pertain& All such numbers or revised numbers shall be assigned by an official or department of the city designated for this duty, and the city shall cause to be prepared such block books or other documents as may be necessary and adequate for the purpose of keeping an accurate record of entrance numbers. After assignment the entrance numbers shall be placed in figures not less than two and one-half inches high immediately above or adjacent to the doorway, gateway or other type of entrance to the building or enclosure. 12.04.060 Change or extension of block¶
numbering. Any adjustments or extensions of the block numbering system delineated on the Plan, which may be deemed advisable to meet changing block layouts or future conditions, are declared to be administrative acts and may be made by a resolution of the city council upon recommendation of the official or department charged with the duty of administering the provisions of this chapter, the adjustments and/or extensions to be made so as to most nearly conform to the true purpose and intent of the Plan.
