10.04.010 Generally.

A. The words and phrases set out in this chapter, when used in this title, shall for the purpose of this title have the meanings ascribed to them in this chapter. B. Whenever any words or phrases used in this chapter are not defined, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the state and amendments thereto, such definitions shall apply. (Ord. 203 §§ 1, 1.1, 1969)

10.04.020 Bicycle.

"Bicycle" means a light vehicle with out a motor, having two wheels, handlebar and a seat or seats, and propelled by operator. (Ord. 203 § 1.2, 1969)

10.04.025 Central Traffic District

The “central traffic district” includes all streets and portions of streets within the area described as follows: A. West Main Street, between Jack Tone Road and Stockton Avenue. B. East Main Street, between Stockton Avenue and Nourse Avenue. C. South Stockton Avenue, between Second Street and Main Street. D. North Stockton Avenue, Between Main Street and Garrison Way. 10.04.030 Coach.

"Coach" means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley, or passenger Stagecoach used as a common carrier of passengers. (Ord. 203 § 1.3, 1969)

10.04.040 Council.

"Council" means the council of the city (Ord. 203 § 1.4, 1969)

10.04.050 Curb.

"Curb" means the lateral boundary of the roadway whether such curb be marked by curbing construction, or not so marked. "Curb," as used in this title, shall not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from parking strips in the center of a street, nor from tracks or rights-of-way of public utility companies. 10.04.060 Divisional island.

"Divisional island" means a raised island located in the roadway and separating opposing or conflicting streams of traffic. (Ord. 203 § 1.6, 1969)

10.04.070 Holidays.

Within the meaning of this title reg ulating traffic upon the public streets of the city, the holidays shall be those holidays as set forth in Section 6700 of the Government Code of the state. (Ord. 361 § 1, 1986: Ord. 203 § 1.7, 1969)

10.04.080 Loading zone.

"Loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials. (Ord. 203 § 1.8, 1969)

10.04.090 Official time standard.

Whenever certain hours are named in this title, they shall mean standard time or daylight saving time, as may be in current use in the city (Ord. 203 §1.9, 1969) 144 (12/13)

10.04.100 Park.

"Park" means to stand or leave standing any vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading of passengers or materials. (Ord. 203 § 1.10, 1969)

10.04.110 Parkway.

"Parkway" means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk. (Ord. 203 § 1.11, 1969)

10.04.120 Parking meter.

"Parking meter" means a mechanical device installed within or upon the curb or sidewalk area, immediately adjacent to a parking space, for the purpose of controlling the period of time occupancy of such parking meter space by any vehicle. (Ord. 203 § 1.12, 1969)

10.04.130 Passenger loading zone.

The space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers. (Ord. 203 § 1.13, 1969)

10.04.140 Pedestrian.

"Pedestrian" means any person afoot (Ord. 203 § 1.14, 1969)

10.04.150 Police officer.

"Police officer" means every officer of the police department of the city or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations. (Ord. 203 § 1.15, 1969)

10.04.160 Stop.

"Stop," when required, means complete cessation of movement (Ord. 203 § 1.16, 1969)

10.04.170 Stop or stand.

"Stop" or "stand," when prohibited, means any stopping or standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or official traffic control device. (Ord. 203 § 1.17, 1969)

10.04.180 Vehicle Code.
