§ 2.28.010 MISSION STATEMENT.

The primary mission of the Fire Department is to provide a range of programs designed to protect the lives and property of the inhabitants of the city from the adverse effects of fire, sudden medical emergencies or exposure to dangerous conditions created by either man or nature. The Fire Chief is charged with the responsibility of establishing goals for each program to provide an element of service that contributes toward a safe working and living environment in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible.

§ 2.28.020 BUREAU OF FIRE PREVENTION ESTABLISHED; DUTIES OF FIRE PREVENTION PERSONNEL.

The State Fire Code (24 C.C.R. Part 9) adopted by the city shall be enforced by the Bureau of Fire Prevention, which is established in the Fire Department, and which shall be operated under the supervision of the Chief of the Fire Department and in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Fire Department. In the absence of the Chief of the Department, the Deputy Chief shall serve as the authority having jurisdiction on matters relative to fire prevention.

§ 2.28.050 DUTY TO RENDER AID; COMPENSATION FOR INJURIES.

(A) In addition to the performance of their regular and ordinary duties, it shall be the duty of all firefighters to go to the aid of all persons, animals or property in immediate distress or danger within the city and render to them such help and assistance as may lie within their power. The firefighters shall also render such assistance outside the city limits upon order of the Chief of the Fire Department.

(B) In case any firefighter should be injured while rendering such additional service as herein mentioned, he or she shall be deemed to have been injured within the course of his or her employment, and entitled to workers’ compensation therefor as provided by law.
