10.28.010 - Stop signs.

Whenever this code or any ordinance or resolution of the city designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a through street, or any intersection at which vehicles are required to stop at one or more entrances thereto, or any railroad crossing at which vehicles are required to stop, the chief of police shall authorize the erection and maintenance of stop signs as follows:

A stop sign shall be erected on each street intersecting such through street or portion thereof so designated and at those entrances of other intersections where a stop is required and at any railroad grade crossing so designated. Every such sign shall conform with and shall be placed as provided in Section 21400 of the Vehicle Code of the state.

10.28.020 - Yield right-of-way signs.

A. Whenever he is so directed by this code or any resolution or ordinance of the city, the chief of police shall authorize the erection and maintenance of yield right-of-way signs at one or more approaches to an intersection of streets and highways which are not through highways.

B. Every yield right-of-way sign erected shall carry the message "Yield Right-of-Way" with letters of the word "yield" at least six inches in height and shall otherwise conform to the specifications as set forth in the National Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways.

C. Every yield right-of-way sign shall be located at or near the entrance to the intersection where motorists are required to yield the right-of-way.

D. When "Yield Right-of-Way" signs are in place giving notice thereof, a driver approaching such "Yield Right-of-Way" sign shall stop or reduce speed of his vehicle as may be required and shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles in the intersection or approaching on the cross street so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard.

10.28.030 - Through streets and stop intersections designated.

A. Those streets and parts of streets described in Section 10.28.040 are declared to be through streets for the purposes of this title.

B. Those entrances and intersections described in Section 10.28.050 are declared to be stop intersections for the purposes of this title.

C. Those highway railway grade crossings described in Section 10.28.060 are hereby declared to be railroad stops for the purposes of this title.

10.28.040 - Through streets.

In accordance with the provisions of Sections 10.28.010 and 10.28.030 and when signs are erected giving notice thereof, drivers of vehicles shall stop at the entrance or entrances to those intersections designated by the city council by resolution.

10.28.060 - Railroad crossings.

In accordance with the provisions of Sections 10.28.010 and 10.28.030 and when signs are erected giving notice thereof, drivers of vehicles shall stop before crossing the railroad tracks at those highway railway grade crossings designated by the city council by resolution.

10.28.070 - Emerging from driveways.

The driver of a vehicle emerging from an alley, driveway or building shall stop such vehicle immediately prior to driving onto a sidewalk or into the sidewalk area extending across any alleyway.
