2.48.010 - Duties.¶
The chief of the fire department shall be the ex officio fire marshal, and also one of the police officers of the city; he is authorized and empowered:
(1) To enforce all ordinances relating to the construction, management and condition of mercantile and other property within the city;
(2) To supervise the construction of all buildings either new or under additions or repair;
(3) To take summary action in carrying out of ordinances pertaining to the removal of rubbish in streets, alleys and yards.
The fire marshal when requested so to do by the city manager shall report or cause to be reported to the city council the condition of the city as to all matters having to do with fire prevention. The fire chief shall be appointed and removed by the city manager. (Ord. 158 § 1, 1938: Ord. 77 § 25, 1923)
