11.04.010 - Generally.¶
The following words and phrases when used in this title shall for the purposes of this title have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this chapter unless the context thereof requires a different meaning.
Whenever any words or phrases used in this title are not defined in this chapter but now are defined in the Vehicle Code of the state, such definitions are incorporated in this title and shall be deemed to apply to such words and phrases in this title as though set forth herein in full.

11.04.020 - Alley.¶
"Alley" means any highway as defined in Section 11.04.050 having a width of twenty-five feet or less and not provided with a sidewalk or sidewalks.

11.04.030 - Commercial vehicle loading zone.¶
"Commercial vehicle loading zone" means that space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading and unloading of passengers and materials, marked and designated as provided in this title.

11.04.040 - Crosswalk.¶
"Crosswalk" means that portion of the roadway included within the prolongation of the curb and property lines of an intersecting street and also, any cross strip of highway, not to exceed twenty feet in width, which is not a crosswalk by reason of intersecting highways but which shall be designated as a crosswalk by ordinance.

11.04.050 - Highway.¶
"Highway" means every road, street, or other way set apart for public travel, except bridle and foot paths.

11.04.060 - Official traffic-control devices.¶
"Official traffic-control devices" means all signs, signals, markings, and devices not inconsistent with this title placed or erected by authority of a public body or official having jurisdiction for the purpose of warning, regulating or guiding traffic.

11.04.070 - Official traffic signal.¶
"Official traffic signal" means any device whether manually, electrically or mechanically operated by which traffic alternately is directed to stop and proceed and which is erected by authority of a public body or official having jurisdiction.

11.04.080 - Park.¶
"Park" means to stand or leave standing any vehicle whether occupied or not, or temporarily, for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

11.04.090 - Parkway.¶
"Parkway" means that portion of a street other than a roadway or sidewalk.

11.04.100 - Passenger loading zone.¶
"Passenger loading zone" means that space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during loading and unloading of passengers, marked and designated as provided in this title.

11.04.110 - Road commissioner.¶
"Road commissioner" means the road commissioner of the county acting and performing the duties imposed in this title for and on behalf of the city.

11.04.120 - Roadway.¶
"Roadway" means that portion of a highway between the regularly established curblines, or when no curbs exist, that portion improved, designated and ordinarily used for vehicular travel and/or parking.

11.04.130 - Safety zone.¶
"Safety zone" means that portion of a roadway reserved for the exclusive use of pedestrians, marked and designated as provided in this chapter.

11.04.140 - Sidewalk.¶
"Sidewalk" means that portion of a highway between a curbline or traversable roadway and the adjacent property lines.

11.04.150 - Stop.¶
"Stop," when required, means complete cessation of movement.
"Stop" or "stand," when prohibited, means any stopping or standing of a vehicle whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or official traffic-control device.
