8.12.170: SUBMITTAL OF SPECIMENS FOR LABORATORY EXAMINATION:

It is the duty of each and every physician who shall be in attendance on any person suffering from any of the diseases specified in section 8.12.180 of this article to submit to the city laboratory or to a laboratory accredited by the state board of health for examination, suitable specimens as prescribed by the health officer to aid in establishing the diagnosis and control of such diseases. 8.12.180: DISEASES SPECIFIED:

The following are included under this article: anthrax, diphtheria, epidemic streptococcus sore throat, glanders, gonorrhea, malaria, meningococcus meningitis, paratyphoid fever, syphilis, tuberculosis, tularemia, typhoid fever, undulant fever and Vincent's angina, and such other diseases as the health officer may from time to time require. 8.12.190: REPORT BY HEALTH OFFICER:

It shall be the duty of the health officer to render a report as quickly as possible to such physician sending suitable specimens for diagnosis of communicable diseases. (Prior code § 34302)

8.12.200: COOPERATION IN DISEASE CONTROL; IMMEDIATE ISOLATION:

It is the duty of the attending physician immediately upon discovering a case of communicable disease to cause the patient to be isolated, pending official action by the health officer. (Prior code § 34303)

8.12.210: ADVICE TO HOUSEHOLD:

Such physician shall also advise other members of the household regarding the precautions to be taken to prevent further spread of the disease. (Prior code § 34304)

8.12.220: IMMUNIZATION:

He shall cooperate with the health officer in endeavoring to secure the immunization or prompt treatment of such patient or contacts to render them noninfectious. (Prior code § 34305)

8.12.230: IMMEDIATE REPORT ON BOTULISM REQUIRED:

Every physician, visiting nurse, public health nurse and every superintendent or other person in charge of any hospital, sanitarium, institution, dispensary, laboratory, camp or other place, who shall have knowledge of the occurrence of a case of botulism or other severe or fatal illness believed to have been due to the consumption of spoiled or poisonous food, shall report the same immediately by telephone or messenger to the health officer. 8.12.240: FOOD SAMPLES:

Whenever possible, samples of the suspected food must also be sent to the health officer at once. (Prior code § 34307)
