8.12.010: DESIGNATED:

It shall be the duty of the health officer, either personally or through a qualified representative, within a reasonable time after the receipt of a report of a case of communicable disease:

A. Seeking Source Of Infection; Verifying Diagnosis: To make such investigation as the circumstances may require for the purpose of ascertaining the source of infection and discovering contacts and unreported cases; to examine all such cases necessary to verify the diagnosis.

B. Collection Of Specimens: To collect and submit (or cause to be collected and submitted) such laboratory and other specimens as may be required to supply necessary or desirable information in determining the diagnosis, the source of infection and the possible infection of contacts.

C. Advice For Patient: To give to the patient, his attendants, members of the household and contacts of the infected person, such instructions and advice as may be necessary to prevent the spread of the disease.

D. Immunization Of Contacts: To take such measures as may be necessary to secure the immunization of all contacts with persons suffering from communicable diseases.

E. Quarantine; Posting Of Premises: To post and maintain at the entrance of the premises, where a communicable disease exists, which is subject to quarantine, due notice to the public that such premises are quarantined.

F. Guards: When necessary, to post guards at such places.

G. Removal To Isolation, Quarantine: To remove to a suitable place of isolation or quarantine all patients affected with a communicable disease or suspected of having such communicable disease when either the condition of the patient or the proper protection of the public health demands such removal. 8.12.020: ESTABLISHMENT OF EMERGENCY LOCATION:

For such purpose, the health officer is authorized to establish and maintain in an emergency a suitable place of treatment or isolation or quarantine at city expense for the period of such emergency. (Prior code § 34108)

8.12.030: QUARANTINE ENFORCEMENT:

He may enforce such quarantine measures as may be necessary in the interest of the general health of the community. (Prior code § 34110)

8.12.040: EMERGENCY; WATER PURIFICATION:

During emergencies, the health officer may take steps to purify the water supply by appropriate disinfection. (Prior code § 34111)

8.12.050: MILK PASTEURIZATION:

When necessary for the protection of the public health, he shall have the authority to pasteurize or order milk pasteurized when same is suspected of carrying typhoid fever or other communicable diseases. (Prior code § 34112)

8.12.060: DESTRUCTION OF TAINTED OR INJURIOUS SUBSTANCES:

He shall have authority to destroy or render noninfectious any food, drink or other substance threatening the public health. (Prior code § 34113)
