Monte Sereno Municipal Code Ch. 4.05 Bicycles

It shall be unlawful for any person to operate or use a bicycle propelled wholly or in part by muscular power within the City of Monte Sereno unless said bicycle is equipped as provided herein.

Every bicycle shall be equipped with a brake adequate to skid the braked wheel on a dry, level, hard surface upon the application of said brake.

Every bicycle operated or used at any time from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise, and at any other time when there is not sufficient light to render clearly discernable any person or vehicle on the streets or highways at a distance of three hundred (300) feet, shall be equipped with a lamp affixed to the front of said bicycle emitting a white light visible under normal atmospheric conditions for a distance of three hundred (300) feet from the front of said bicycle, and with a red glass reflector of a type approved by the City Police of a diameter of one and three-fourths inch, or larger, which shall be affixed to the vehicle so as to be visible under normal atmospheric conditions for a distance of three hundred (300) feet from the rear of said bicycle. All lamps, lenses, and reflectors shall be kept in a clean condition at all times.

No person shall ride, use or operate a bicycle on any sidewalk pedestrian path within the City except as herein specifically permitted. Children under the age of ten years shall be exempt from this prohibition.

No person riding or operating a bicycle shall carry or transport another person on said bicycle unless said person carried or transported is seated upon an individual seat or carrier affixed to said bicycle which is separate from that used by the operator. No person shall ride upon a bicycle as a passenger unless said person is seated upon an individual seat or carrier affixed to said bicycle which is separate from that used by the operator of said bicycle.
