Chino Municipal Code Ch. 10.21 Stops and Stop Signs

10.21.010 - No stop required—Conditions designated.

No stop need be made at any intersection where:

A. An officer is on duty and directs traffic to proceed;

B. An official traffic control signal is in operation and indicates that traffic may proceed;

C. The stop sign has been removed either pursuant to Section 10.09.110, or otherwise;

D. The stop sign has been covered as provided in Section 10.09.110;

E. The operator turns right into a highway from a separate right-turn lane which is delineated by markers or channelization, and no stop sign is in place at the intersection of such separate right-turn lane and such highway.

10.21.020 - Yield right-of-way signs—Installation required when.

The director shall erect, or cause to be erected, yield right-of-way signs complying with provisions of the Vehicle Code at one or more approaches to an intersection of highways which are not through highways, where the council has determined that because of lack of visibility, or because of the number of reported accidents or the apparent probability thereof, such signs are considered necessary, and where according to the principles and experience of traffic engineering, the installation of stop signs is not justified.

10.21.030 - Yield right-of-way signs—Exceptions to driver compliance.

Compliance with the yield right-of-way sign shall not be required where:

A. An officer is on duty and directs traffic to proceed without yielding the right-of-way;

B. The yield right-of-way sign has been removed either pursuant to Section 10.09.110, or otherwise;

C. The yield right-of-way sign has been covered a provided in Section 10.09.110.

10.21.040 - Emergency conditions—Authority to install stop signs.

Where any emergency conditions exist, the director may erect or cause to be erected stop signs complying with the Vehicle Code, as provided in Section 10.21.050, and maintain such signs while such conditions continue.

10.21.050 - Erection and maintenance of stop signs.

Whenever any ordinance or resolution of this city designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a through street, or any intersection at which vehicles are required to stop at one or more entrances thereto, or any railroad grade crossing at which vehicles are required to stop, the director shall erect and maintain stop signs as follows:

A stop sign shall be erected on each and every street intersecting such through street or portion thereof so designated and at those entrances of other intersections where a stop is designated. Every such sign shall conform with and shall be placed as provided in the Vehicle Code.

10.21.060 - Stop at through street or stop sign required when.

A. Those streets and parts of streets established by resolution of the council are declared to be through streets for the purposes of this Section.

B. The provisions of Section 10.21.050 shall also apply at one or more entrances to the intersections as such entrances and intersections are established by resolution of the Council.
