Chino Municipal Code Ch. 10.04 Definitions

A. Whenever any words or phrases used in this title are not defined but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the state and amendments thereto, such definitions will apply.

B. The following words and phrases when used in this title, shall for the purpose of this title, have the meanings respectively described to them in this chapter.

"Bus loading zone" means the space adjacent to the curb or edge of a roadway reserved for the exclusive use of buses during the loading or unloading of passengers.

"Chief of police" means the chief of the police department of the city or his designee.

"City manager" means the manager of the city or his designee, whose duties and responsibilities are described in Chapter 2.08 of this code.

"Coach" means any motor bus, motor coach, trackless trolley, or passenger stage used as a common carrier of passengers.

"Commercial vehicle loading zone" means that space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers and materials marked and designated as hereinafter provided in this title.

"Council" means the city council of the city of Chino.

"Director" means the public works director for the city, or the director's designate.

"Director of community development" means the director of the department of community development of the city or his designee.

Within the meaning of this chapter, "holidays" are the first day of January, the third Monday in February; the fourth Monday in May; the fourth day of July; the first Monday in September; the city's observed holiday for Veterans Day; the fourth Thursday and subsequent Friday in November; and the 25th day of December.

"Loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of a vehicle during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

Whenever certain hours are named herein, they shall mean standard time or daylight saving time as may be in current use in the city.

"Operator" means any person who is in actual physical control of a vehicle.

"Parkway" means the portion of a highway other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

"Passenger loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers.

"Police department" means the authorized agency charged by the city with law enforcement responsibility.

"Police officer" means every officer of the police department of this city, or any other person authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for traffic violations.

"Private street" means a street over which private persons have an easement to travel, and does not include driveways, paths, or other ways over which no one has a right to travel except by license.

"Section" means a section of the ordinance codified in this title unless some other ordinance or statute is specifically mentioned.

"Skateboard" means any board or any other object or device which has wheels attached to it by any means whatsoever and which is propelled by pushing, pulling, or gravitational forces, and to which there is not affixed any device or mechanism for steering.

"Vehicle code" means the Vehicle Code of the state.
