Sec. 2.12. - Same—Police and fire departments.

For the purpose of the administration of the affairs of the department of public safety it is divided into the two following sections:

(a)

The police department, whose duties in general shall be to enforce the laws and ordinances relating to public peace, health and safety.

(b)

The fire department, whose duties in general shall be to enforce all the laws, ordinances and regulations relating to fire hazards and to protecting persons and property from fire and the hazards of fire.

Sec. 2.12-1. - Consolidation of police and fire departments—Voter approval required.

Any or all existing, immediate or future administrative processes and/or proposals for the consolidation of the police and fire departments of the city of Brawley to form a public safety department, or any other consolidated department, whether proposed by the mayor, city council or city manager, shall be submitted to the voters for their approval; a two-thirds majority being necessary for the adoption and implementation of any consolidation.
