1016.3 Vertical egress. For habitable levels or basements in R-3 occupancies or townhouses that are located more than one story above or more than one story below an egress door, the maximum travel distance from any occupied point to a stairway or ramp that provides egress from such habitable level or basement shall not exceed 50 feet (15240 mm).
