BUILDING NUMBERING SYSTEM

All entrances from public streets to buildings or separate apartments in buildings shall be numbered as provided in this chapter. The number of any entrance shall be placed upon or immediately above the door or gate closing the same and each figure shall be at least two inches in height and of corresponding width. (Prior code § 38.04.046) 15.116.020 Numbering of entrances-When number to be attached. The appropriate number of any entrance shall be placed thereon within two weeks after the building to which it belongs shall have been completed or occupied. (Prior code § 38.04.047) 15.116.030 Starting points for numbering. Front Street shall be the starting point for all numbers on all buildings fronting on the streets running therefrom in an easterly direction. A Street shall be the starting point for all numbers on all streets running southerly therefrom. (Prior code § 38.04.048)
15.116.040 Odd and even numbers. On all streets the numbers on the south and west side shall be even numbers, and the numbers on the north and east sides shall be odd numbers. (Prior code § 38.04.049) 15.116.050 Numbers to be used in each block.
One hundred (100) numbers, or as many as may be necessary, shall be allotted to each block on streets running easterly from Front Street and southerly from A Street; numbers one hundred (100), two hundred (200) and three hundred (300), being respectively the numbers for commencing the blocks at Front, Second and Third Streets; and A, B, and C Streets on the side designated for even numbers; and numbers one hundred one (101), two hundred one (201), and three hundred one (301) in similar manner on the side designated for odd numbers, so that the number one hundred (100) will be at Front Street and A Street, two hundred (200) at Second Street and B Street, three hundred (300) at Third Street and C Street, and so on throughout their extent. Twenty (20) feet in frontage of all buildings and vacant lots of ground shall be allowed for each number. (Prior code § 38.04.050)
15.116.060 Annexed territory-Lots to be numbered.¶
All lots or fractions of lots in territory annexed to the city shall be assigned house numbers, the denomination and numbers of which shall be determined by the location and size of the lot.
The denomination of such numbers shall increase from west to east and from north to south, the odd numbers being placed on the northerly and easterly sides and the even numbers on the southerly and westerly sides of all streets and avenues, the hundreds in any number indicating in general the number of the first street lying west of such lot whose numbers increase toward the east, and the first street or avenue lying north of such lot whose numbers increase toward the south, the avenues being assigned the hundred following consecutively the hundreds as assigned to the alphabet as used in that portion of the city west of Thirty-first Street and north of Y Street.
The number of such numbers assigned to any lot shall be two, six, eight or more as, in the judgment of the city engineer, shall best suit the individual block, keeping in view the possible opening of new streets or the extending of old streets through any section of the annexed territory and the desirability, so far as possible, of keeping the odd and even numbers opposite each other on each street, avenue or way. 15.116.070 Annexed territory-City engineer to number lots.¶
The city engineer shall assign house numbers to all lots of record in territory annexed to the city as soon as they become of record and to all new lots as soon as they become of record and shall keep on file in his or her office plans showing the numbers assigned by him or her to such lots and shall inform all lot owners of the official house numbers assigned to their lots when such owners request the same. (Prior code § 38.04.052)
15.116.080 Annexed territory-Numbers to be placed on houses.¶
The owners of all lots within the territory annexed to the city shall provide the houses situated on such lots with the numbers assigned to such lots by the city engineer. (Prior code § 38.04.053)
