Sec. 10.16.010. - Conformance to state code required.¶
All official traffic signs, signals, markings and devices shall conform, as to size, form, construction, appearance and location, with the applicable provisions of the vehicle code of the state, or in the absence of such provisions, with the provisions of any resolution adopted by the city council. It shall be the duty of the chief of police to place and maintain or cause to be placed and maintained, all such signs, signals, markings and devices.

Sec. 10.16.020. - Proper position, legibility required for enforcement.¶
No provision of this title (with the exception of sections 10.24.010, 10.24.020, 10.36.020, 10.36.030, and chapters 10.40 and 10.44) for which signs are required shall be enforceable against the alleged violator if at the time and place of the alleged violation the sign required is not in proper position and sufficiently legible to be seen by an ordinarily observant person.

Sec. 10.16.030. - Unofficial sign, signal prohibited.¶
It is unlawful for any person to place or maintain or to display upon or in view of any street any unofficial sign, signal or device which purports to be or is an imitation of or resembles an official traffic sign or signal, or which attempts to direct the movement of traffic or which hides from view or interferes with the effectiveness of any official sign or signal. Every such prohibited sign, signal or device is a public nuisance and the chief of police is empowered to remove the same or cause it to be removed without notice.

Sec. 10.16.050. - Obedience required.¶
It is unlawful for any operator or pedestrian to disobey the instructions of any mechanical signal, traffic sign or marks upon the street, placed in accordance with the provisions of this title (with the exception of sections 10.24.010, 10.24.020, 10.36.020, 10.36.030, and chapters 10.40 and 10.44), unless otherwise directed by a police officer.
