6-14 Effect Of Issuance Of Permits, Granting Of Approval, Etc.

The issuance or granting of a permit or approval of plans and specifications under this article shall not be deemed or construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of this chapter, or the Uniform Plumbing Code adopted by this article. No permit presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this chapter or the Uniform Plumbing Code shall be valid, except insofar as the work or use which it authorizes is lawful.

The issuance of a permit upon plans and specifications shall not prevent the building inspector from thereafter requiring the correction of errors in such plans and specifications or from preventing construction operations being carried on thereunder when in violation of this chapter or the Uniform Plumbing Code, or from revoking any certificate or approval when issued in error.

Every permit issued under this article shall expire by limitation and become null and void, if the work authorized by such permit is not commenced within sixty days form the date of such permit, or if the work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work is commenced, for a period of sixty days. However, the permittee may apply with the building inspector for an extension of the permit prior to its expiration. If the permit becomes expired, a new permit shall be obtained before work can be recommenced. (Ord. No. 276 N.S., § 1; Ord. No. 178-AC, (part).)

This article shall not be construed to relieve from or lessen the liability or responsibility of any person owning, operating, controlling, altering, repairing or installing any plumbing in the city for injuries or damages caused or resulting by reason of any defects in such plumbing or in the alteration, repair or installation thereof.

Neither the city nor the building inspector shall be construed to have assumed any such liability or responsibility by reason of any of the provisions contained in this article or by reason of any acts performed in accordance with or by reason of the provisions of this article. (Ord. No. 254 N.S.)
