Sec. 2.38.010 - Duties of Sheriff's Public Safety Officer.

The Sheriff's Public Safety Officer is hereby authorized to enforce all state statutes and ordinances and is authorized to arrest persons for violations of such statute or ordinance or to issue citations to such violators. (Penal Code Section 836.5).

Sec. 2.38.020 - Reserve Deputy Sheriff; Designated and Non-Designated.

(A) The Sheriff, or his or her authorized designee, has the authority to select and appoint any reserve deputy sheriff as a "designated" reserve deputy sheriff as provided by California Penal Code Section 830.6(a)(2). The authority of the reserve deputy sheriff so designated includes the full powers and duties of a peace officer as provided by California Penal Code section 830.1.

(B) Any reserve deputy sheriff not appointed as a "designated" reserve deputy sheriff as provided in subsection (A) of this section is a "non-designated" reserve deputy sheriff as provided by California Penal Code section 830.6(a)(1). The authority of a non- designated reserve deputy sheriff shall extend only for the duration of the reserve deputy's specific assignment.
