Editor's note— Ord. No. 4499, § 1, adopted December 7, 2021, repealed Ch. 2.08, §§ 2.08.010, 2.08.020, and enacted a new Ch. 2.08 as set out herein and later amended. Former Ch. 2.08 pertained to similar subject matter and derived from Ord. No. 3344, adopted 1981; Ord. No. 3797, adopted 1991; Ord. No. 4073, adopted 2001; and Ord. No. 4284, adopted October 4, 2011.

Sec. 2.08.010 - Principles of Redistricting.

California Elections Code Chapter 6 of Division 21, commencing with section 21500, requires the Board of Supervisors, following each federal decennial census, to adjust the boundaries of any or all of the supervisorial districts of the County to be substantially equal in population as required by the United States Constitution. State law also requires boundaries to comply with the U.S. Constitution, California Constitution, the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965, and to the extent practicable, certain additional prioritized criteria.

Sec. 2.08.020 - Adjustment of Boundaries of Supervisorial Districts Following Federal…

The boundaries of each of the five (5) supervisorial districts of the County of Mendocino shall be established by ordinance or by resolution of the Board of Supervisors following each decennial census in accordance with California Elections Code Chapter 6 of Division 21, commencing with section 21500, and shall be published on the County website. Utilizing the 2020 federal decennial census data, the Final Map and written description of supervisorial boundaries detailed by census tracts, census block groups, and remaining census blocks for each of the five (5) supervisorial districts is attached to the ordinance from which this chapter derived, made part of this Chapter, and designed as Exhibits "A" and "B."
