2.22.010 Office Established¶
The office of director of public works is established by the city.

2.22.020 Appointment; Tenure; Compensation¶
The director of public works shall be appointed by and supervised by the city manager as provided in Section 7.02 of the City Charter.

2.22.030 Duties¶
The director of public works, under the direction of the city manager, shall direct and supervise the public works department, and in conjunction therewith shall organize, direct and supervise the installation, maintenance and repair of municipal public works facilities; direct the operation of the city's water and sewage treatment plant; direct the installation and repair of the city streets; direct and review maintenance and repair work at the water and sewage treatment plant and other structures; direct connections made to water meters and sewer lines; see that all equipment is maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition; maintain records of time, materials, supplies and equipment; assist in the preparation of the departmental budget and in the control of the departmental expenditures; interview prospective employees and make recommendations regarding hiring and dismissal; and prepare reports of such activities.

2.22.040 Additional Duties¶
Under the direction and supervision of the director of public works, the department of public works shall have responsibility for the following additional activities as listed in this section:
- The maintenance, construction and operation of all city streets, roads, highways, traffic signals, signs and traffic control devises of all types.
- Supervision of all building inspection of all types, including the enforcement of all building and related codes.
- Supervision and administration of all aspects of the collection and disposal of refuse within the city, including contracted services the collection and disposal of refuse within the city.
- Supervision over the design and inspection of all construction of all city public works projects and facilities of all kind and nature.
- Maintenance and operation of all city-owned or leased public buildings.
- Construction, operation, maintenance and custody of all city-owned parks and city-owned recreation facilities.
- Such other duties and activities as shall be assigned by ordinance, resolution or the city manager.
