10.12.010 - Official traffic signal.

Whenever traffic is controlled by traffic control signals exhibiting the words, "Go," "Caution" or "Stop," or exhibiting different colored lights successively, one at a time, such signals shall conform with the requirements of the Vehicle Code and all traffic shall comply with such signals.

10.12.020 - Disobeying instructions of various signals.

No person shall disobey instructions of:

A. Any official traffic signal;

B. Any traffic sign; or

C. Any paint marks placed upon the surface of the roadway; or

D. Any banner or sign erected by any of the public departments of the City and erected or placed in accordance with provisions of this chapter.

10.12.030 - Parking and traffic engineer to establish crosswalks.

The parking and traffic engineer is authorized and required to establish and maintain, or cause to be maintained, and to designate upon the surface of the roadway by appropriate devices, marks, or white or yellow lines, crosswalks approximately equal in width to the adjacent sidewalk at all intersections and between intersections where, in his opinion, there is particular danger to pedestrians crossing the roadway.

10.12.040 - Special controls required.

The parking and traffic engineer is to install and maintain all traffic control devices. The parking and traffic engineer is authorized to determine those streets, intersections and crosswalks at which traffic is hazardous or dangerous to life or property by reason of volume of traffic upon such streets or at such intersections or crosswalks, or lack of visibility or the drivers of vehicles approaching such streets, intersections or crosswalks, or because of the numerous reported accidents or the possibility thereof, or by reason of other physical conditions likely to render any such streets, intersections or crosswalks dangerous or hazardous to life or property. When the parking and traffic engineer has determined that a street, intersection or crosswalk is dangerous or hazardous to life or property, he is authorized and empowered to place, at, on or near such streets, intersections or crosswalks as he shall designate. Every such traffic control device shall conform to the requirements of the Vehicle Code of the State of California.

10.12.050 - Failure to stop when required by sign unlawful.

No operator of any vehicle shall fail to stop such vehicle at any stop sign erected and maintained pursuant to this chapter at the entrance to any intersection or any other location wheresoever installed, and not proceed until such time that said intersection or location is clear of traffic and safe to proceed.
