§ 10.12.010. Police administration.

The chief of police shall administer the traffic laws and shall cooperate with other city officials in developing ways and means to improve traffic in the city.

§ 10.12.020. Traffic accident studies.

Whenever accidents at any particular location indicate the need for remedial measures, the chief of police shall notify the city manager of such condition and shall, after study, make recommendations for correcting the same.

§ 10.12.030. Traffic accident reports.

The police department shall maintain a suitable system of filing traffic accident reports. Accident reports, or cards referring to them, shall be filed so as to provide prompt information to lawful and legitimate inquiries.

§ 10.12.040. Annual traffic safety report.

The police department shall annually prepare a traffic report which shall be filed with the council. Such report shall contain information on traffic matters in the city as follows:

A. The number of traffic accidents, the number of persons killed, the number of persons injured, and other pertinent traffic accident data;

B. The number of traffic accidents investigated and other pertinent data on the safety activities of the police;

C. The plans and recommendations of the department for future traffic safety activities.

§ 10.12.050. Duties of the city engineer.

It shall be the general duty of the city engineer to determine the proper timing and maintenance of traffic control devices and signals, to conduct engineering analysis of major traffic accidents, to devise remedial measures and to conduct engineering investigation of traffic conditions for submission to the city council for its consideration, and to cooperate with other city officials in the development of ways and means to improve traffic conditions.

§ 10.12.060. Duties of the street superintendent.

Whenever any provision of this title requires the city engineer to mark, place or erect markings, buttons, lines or signs in the street, it shall be the duty of the street superintendent to do such work at the request of the city manager.
