10.32.010 Signs required where—City Manager authority and responsibility.

Whenever any ordinance or resolution of this City designates and describes any street or portion thereof as a through street, or any intersection at which vehicles are required to stop at one or more entrances thereto, the City Manager shall erect and maintain a stop sign on each street intersecting such through street or portion thereof so designated and at those entrances to other intersections where a stop is required. Every such sign shall conform with, and shall be placed as provided in, the Vehicle Code of the State. (Ord. 87-4 § 25, 1987; Ord. 76-3 § 1, 1976; Ord. 155 NS § 7, 1967; prior code § 13-32.)

10.32.020 Through streets and intersections designated by City Council—Stops required.

A. Those streets and parts of streets established by resolution of the City Council are declared to be through streets for the purposes of this chapter.

B. The provisions of this chapter shall also apply at one or more entrances to the intersections, as such entrances and intersections are established by resolution of the City Council. (Ord. 155 NS § 7.1, 1967; prior code § 13-33.)

10.32.030 Emerging from private road, driveway or building.

The driver of a vehicle emerging from a private road, driveway or building shall stop such vehicle immediately prior to driving onto a sidewalk area or into the street extending across any private road or driveway. (Ord. 155 NS § 7.2, 1967; prior code § 13-34.)

10.32.040 Penalty for violation of stop intersections.

A. It is unlawful for any person or owner, operator, or driver of any motor vehicles to run, operate or drive or to cause or permit any motor vehicle to be run, operated or driven onto or into any intersection designated as a stop intersection unless such motor vehicle shall first be brought to a full stop immediately before entering upon or crossing said intersection, unless directed to enter upon or cross said intersection by a qualified and authorized police officer of the City, or by means of some automatic or other traffic signal device maintained by the City.

B. Any person violating any of the provisions of this Section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable as set forth in Chapter 1.12 of this code. 10.32.050 Yield right-of-way signs.

The City Manager is authorized to install yield right-of-way signs and appropriate markings if deemed necessary at one or more approaches to intersections of streets which are not through highways. Locations are to be designated upon the basis of traffic engineering principles and other traffic engineering investigation. (Ord. 89-6 § 1, 1989.)
