10.04.010 Definitions.¶
The following words and phrases, when used in this Title or any other traffic ordinance of the City, shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this Section. Whenever any words or phrases used herein are not defined, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the State and amendments thereto, such definitions shall apply. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.015 Charging.¶
“Charging” shall mean an electric vehicle parked at an electric vehicle charging station and is electrically connected to the charging station equipment. (Ord. 2013-1 § 1, 2013.)
10.04.020 Coach.¶
“Coach” means any motor bus, motor coach, or passenger van used as a common carrier of passengers. (Ord. 87-4 § 1, 1987; Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.030 Curb.¶
“Curb” means the lateral boundary of roadway, whether such curb be marked by curbing construction, or not so marked. The word “curb,” as used in this Title, shall not include the line dividing the roadway of a street from parking strips in the center of a street, nor from tracks or rights-of-way of public utility companies. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.040 Divisional island.¶
“Divisional island” means a raised island located in the roadway and separating opposing or conflicting streams of traffic. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.042 Electric vehicle.¶
“Electric vehicle” (EV) shall be defined as a “motor vehicle” as defined in the California Vehicle Code, and (i) which displays the State of California Air Board ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) sticker or (ii) any vehicle defined by the Air Resources Board as “off-vehicle charge capable” meaning having the capability to charge a battery from an offvehicle electric energy source that cannot be connected or coupled to the vehicle in any manner while the vehicle is being driven. (Ord. 2013-1 § 2, 2013.)
10.04.045 Highway.¶
“Highway” is a way or place of whatever nature, publicly maintained and open to the public for purposes of vehicular traffic. Highway includes street. (Ord. 79-1 § 1 (A), 1979.)
10.04.050 Holidays.¶
“Holidays” shall be defined as set forth in Government Code Section 6700 and 6701. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.060 Loading zone.¶
“Loading zone” means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.070 Passenger loading zone.¶
“Passenger loading zone” means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.080 Pedestrian.¶
“Pedestrian” means any person afoot. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.090 Police officer.¶
“Police officer” means every officer of the police department of this City or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.100 Stop.¶
“Stop” means when required, such term means a complete cessation of movement. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
10.04.105 Through highway.¶
“Through highway” is a highway or portion thereof at the entrance to which vehicular traffic from intersecting highways is regulated by stop signs or traffic-control signals or is controlled when entering on a separated rightturn roadway by a yield right-of-way sign. (Ord. 79-1 § 1(B), 1979.)
10.04.108 Vehicle.¶
“Vehicle” means a device by which any person or property may be propelled, moved, or drawn upon a highway, excepting a device moved exclusively by human power or used exclusively upon stationary rails or tracks. (Ord. 87-4 § 2, 1987.)
10.04.110 Vehicle Code.¶
“Vehicle Code” means the Vehicle Code of the State of California. (Ord. 77-24 § 2, 1977.)
