§ 2.34.010. Establishment of the reserve police officer position.

The city council hereby confirms the establishment of the position of reserve police officer within the Wheatland police department. A reserve police officer shall be assigned to the prevention and detection of crime and the general enforcement of the laws of the state and the officer shall possess the full powers and duties of peace officers as provided in the Penal Code and shall have all privileges, immunities, and protections afforded to peace officers under law.

§ 2.34.020. Designation of reserve police officers.

The city council hereby designates as reserve police officers those persons so appointed by the chief of police and employed from time to time as reserve police officers. Reserve police officers appointed by the chief of police may be assigned to the prevention and detection of crime and the general enforcement of the laws of the state.

§ 2.34.030. Authority of chief of police.

The city council confirms the authority of the chief of police to appoint reserve police officers from time to time, so long as consistent with the approved city budget or as otherwise approved by the city council. The city council also authorizes the chief of police to take whatever actions are deemed necessary or appropriate to implement the reserve police officer position. Nothing in this chapter shall prevent the chief of police from revoking or suspending reserve police officer status, nor shall he or she be under any mandate or obligation to appoint reserve police officers.
