§ 9.12.010. Unclaimed property in possession of Police Department.

Unclaimed property coming into the possession of the Police Department shall be held in its custody for a period of six months. The Police Department shall exercise due care in the preservation of such property and shall deliver up the same to any person identifying him or herself as the owner thereof to the satisfaction of the Chief of Police. § 9.12.020. Destruction or auction of property.

After a period of six months has elapsed from the time that the Police Department came into possession of the property, enumerated in the preceding section, when no person has identified him or herself as the owner thereof, the Chief of Police may destroy such property as guns, knives, clubs, saps or any property deemed unsalable or liable to cause bodily harm in the hands of irresponsible persons. All other property shall be sold at public auction. (Prior code § 16.51)

§ 9.12.030. Notice of auction sale.

At least five days prior to auctioning any property the Chief of Police shall cause to be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the County a notice of the auction of unclaimed property in the possession of the Police Department, giving the date, time and place of the auction sale. (Prior code § 16.52)
