§ 5.24.010. Permit required—Permit posting.

  • A. It is unlawful for any person to conduct or assist in conducting any boxing contest, sparring and wrestling match or exhibition for prize or purse, or where an admission fee is received, in the City, unless under and by authority of a written permit of the City Council, and no permit issued under this chapter shall be transferable except with the consent of the City Council.

  • B. Such permit so issued shall be posted in a conspicuous place on the premises where the boxing contest, sparring and wrestling match or exhibition is held or conducted.

§ 5.24.020. Application for permit.

A permit to conduct boxing contests, sparring and wrestling matches or exhibitions will be issued by the City Council only upon written application. Each written application for a permit shall be presented to the City Council and shall set forth the following facts:

  • A. The name and residence of the applicant or applicants, and, if the applicant be a firm, the names and residences of the partners thereof; if the applicant be an association, the names and residences of the officers thereof; and if the applicant be a corporation, the names and residences of the officers and directors thereof.

  • B. The place for which the permit is desired or in which the contest is to be carried on.

  • C. The number and dates of exhibitions to be held under the permit. (Prior code § 18.31)

§ 5.24.030. Prerequisites to issuance of permit.

The City Council, before issuing any permit required by this chapter, will first satisfy itself of the character, reputation and moral fitness of those who will be in charge of it, or other facts of evidences tending to enlighten the Council in this respect. (Prior code § 18.32)

§ 5.24.040. Permit fees.

The following fee shall be charged and collected for permits granted under the provisions of this chapter:

For each day any boxing contest, sparring and wrestling match or exhibition is held, 10% of the gross receipts, with a minimum license fee of $100.00. (Prior code § 18.33)

§ 5.24.050. Compliance with State laws.

No permit shall be granted by the City Council unless the applicant and all participants in contests or exhibitions shall have complied with all laws of the State regarding boxing and wrestling contests for prizes or purses or where admission fees are charged.

§ 5.24.060. Inspections by police—Right of entry.

It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police and police officers of the City, in addition to their several duties, to inspect any and all places where contests or exhibitions set forth in this chapter are held and they shall be permitted to enter free of charge any place where such contest or exhibitions are held for the purpose of inspection. § 5.24.070. Adoption of rules.

The City Council may make rules governing such contests, matches, and exhibitions not in conflict with the laws of the State.

No gambling or gaming of any kind shall be permitted or allowed at any boxing or wrestling event.
