13.04 — DEFINITIONS

§ 13.04.010. Definitions generally.

Whenever any words or phrases used in this Title are not defined in this chapter, but are defined in the Vehicle Code of the state, such definitions are incorporated in this title and shall apply to such words and phrases used in this title as though set forth in this chapter in full.

For the purposes of this title, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this chapter. (Prior code § 17-1)

§ 13.04.020. Business district.

"Business district" means that portion of a highway and the property contiguous thereto upon one side of which highway, for a distance of six hundred feet, fifty percent or more of the contiguous property fronting thereon is occupied by buildings in use for business, or upon both sides of which highway, collectively, for a distance of three hundred feet, fifty percent or more of the contiguous property fronting thereon is so occupied. A business district may be longer than the distance specified in this section if the above ratio, of buildings in use for business to the length of highway, exists.

§ 13.04.030. Holidays.

"Holidays" shall be as follows:

New Year's Day, January 1st; Washington's Birthday, third Monday in February; Memorial Day, last Monday in May; Independence Day, July 4th; Labor Day, first Monday in September; Veterans' Day, November 11th; Thanksgiving Day, fourth Thursday in November; Friday after Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving; Christmas Eve, December 24th; Christmas Day, December 25th. If a holiday falls upon a Sunday, the Monday following is a holiday; if a holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be deemed to be a holiday. (Prior code § 17-1; Ord. 87-O-122, 1987)

§ 13.04.040. Loading zone.

"Loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers or materials. (Prior code § 17-1)

§ 13.04.050. Park.

"Park" means to stand or leave standing any vehicle, whether occupied or not, otherwise than temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading of passengers or materials.

§ 13.04.060. Parkway.

"Parkway" means that portion of a street other than a roadway or a sidewalk.

§ 13.04.070. Passenger loading zone.

"Passenger loading zone" means the space adjacent to a curb reserved for the exclusive use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers. (Prior code § 17-1)

§ 13.04.080. Pedestrian.

"Pedestrian" means any person afoot. (Prior code § 17-1)

§ 13.04.090. Police officer.

"Police officer" means every officer of the police department of the city, or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations. (Prior code § 17-1)

§ 13.04.100. Stop.

"Stop" when required, means complete cessation of movement. (Prior code § 17-1)

§ 13.04.110. Stop or stand.

"Stop or stand," when prohibited, means any stopping or standing of a vehicle, whether occupied or not, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or official traffic-control device. (Prior code § 17-1)
